Pre-Existing Conditions and You
You’ve been feeling low for a while now, and you’re scared that it might be serious. You’re putting off seeing your doctor until you get that health insurance that would pay for whatever illness you have. Wrong! Although a Pre-existing Condition is defined as any illness or ailment that you’ve been diagnosed with and treated for over a specific period of time, it can also apply to an illness wherein you’ve experienced symptoms before your coverage. The time frame varies according to the insurance company, it can be illness you have been treated for prior to signing your contract, or it can be an illness that shows up within 6 months of your signing that contract, that is considered genetically inherited (like asthma or diabetes). Any claims or consultations for this condition is usually not covered by the insurance company. It’s a necessary protection for the insurance company, and a way to keep premiums down.
Moreover, it has to be diagnosed by a licensed medical practitioner. So even if you show a note from your friendly alternative practitioner saying that you are in perfect health, your health care provider won’t honor that letter.
